The Office of International Programs (OIP) oversees all international study away during the academic year at Vassar. This includes Vassar-faculty directed programs (England, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Russia, and Spain), approved programs sponsored by other colleges as well as a number of international bilateral exchange programs (China, France, England, Japan). While Vassar recognizes the growing importance of Globalism and the relevance of international study, students must go through the process of applying for permission to study abroad. This involves declaring a major before the end of the fall semester of your sophomore year and working closely with your major advisor to develop an academic plan for your study abroad. Applications are reviewed in early January by the Committee on Leaves and Privileges and decision letters are sent out in early February. Once you have been approved by the committee, you can begin the application for your study abroad program!
If you are interested in applying to study abroad for all or part of your junior year, please take the time to familiarize yourself with the requirements and policies and start planning during your freshman year! You can either make an appointment with the director or stop by the office during drop-in hours. The Office of International Programs also hires two study abroad experienced senior interns each year who are available to do peer counseling.
